Course Description: 

After 45 years in education, 40 of them in leadership positions, this is a collection of pieces of wisdom gained along the way with tips to make the process of leaders at all levels more effective and greatly more efficient in everything from cost savings to bringing about very significant impact on student outcomes. There ar no expensive gimmicks – these are all tried and tested and work!

Learning Outcomes:

  •          Demonstrate clear understanding of the benefits to be gained from habitual, strategic boundary spanning as a means to drive improvement within schools. 
  •           Evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of a flattened staffing structure for encouraging natural delegation and a flow of new ideas and solutions-based approaches within schools.
  •      With the aid of a template, devise a tailormade, personalized professional development suite based on low or no-cost provision to meet the needs of a school and the personnel involved.
  •      Differentiate between mentoring and coaching, embedding a plan for personalized staff growth through known tasks and expectations.
  •      Enable evaluation of teams currently working in a school and embed practices that ensure enhanced capacity and empowerment.
  •      Create opportunities for professional learning and enhanced leadership effectiveness through the creative of mutually beneficial relationships with business and industry in the local setting.

Course Delivery:

The course will b delivered via 6 x one-hour webinars which will start on Sunday 13th November 2022 live but which can be accessed through the SEA platform after the live session. The course will continue each Sunday between 11am and 12 noon for six weeks.

A pre-Assessment activity in the form of a MCQ should be completed prior to the commencement of the course. This will take approximately 45 minutes – 1 hour.

Following the course there will be a further MCQ Assessment. In addition, each participant should demonstrate their engagement with the course by making an 8–10-minute video or podcast about one of the strategies mentioned in the course that they have employed at their school. This will be assessed via a rubric. While the making of the film or podcast should not take longer than one hour, the content will be based on the embedding of one course strategy. The time to effect this will depend on the individual school and prevailing conditions. This component should be uploaded to the SEA within 6 weeks of completion of the course.

Facilitator:

Judith is a highly experienced educator, consultant and advisor with 40+ years' experience as a school leader in both government and private school settings.

Having trained and taught in New Zealand, a country renowned for providing excellent education and school leadership based on sound but innovative, tried-and-tested educational research, Judith moved to the UK where she held a variety of leadership roles making a very visible difference to education, transforming the lives of many young people. 

She has extensive experience of education in three MENA countries: Saudi Arabia, Oman, and the UAE, where she has lived and worked for the last 14 years in a variety of roles including leadership, school improvement and consultancy. Now an education director, Judith is focused on transforming education for the future, especially in engaging young people more actively in the educational process, and leaders more effectively in realizing improved student outcomes. As a tutor on  PGCEi and M.Ed. Leadership modules for a UAE-based college, she is making sure the sound strategies are taught at as many teachers and leaders as possible.

An afficionado of active learning, Judith is the author of a transformational book of strategies for teachers called ‘Getting Off Your Chair’ and she has planned and delivered a number of in-person and online courses, including a SEA course entitled ‘Getting to Outstanding.’ She regularly speaks on both public and private forums.

Award:

The participating in the course will receive a certificate at the end of the course provided they have:

  •      Completed the Pre-Assessment MCQ
  •      Submitted one 8-10-minute video evidencing engagement with the course by embedding one strategy in their school. (This must be submitted within 6 weeks of the final webinar session.

Completed the final assessment MCQ at the end.

Credit Hours

Total hours to complete the course: 10 – 15.

The course webinars and assessments will take approximately 8 hours with an additional 7 allowed for strategy embedding and film or podcast production.
