Course Description

This course focuses on strategies for teaching bilingual learners, covering topics like language acquisition, cultural considerations, and effective teaching methods.  The PDQ Programme for Teaching Bilingual Learners offers a comprehensive curriculum to enhance educators' skills in teaching students with diverse language backgrounds, preparing them for effective bilingual education.
 

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course, teachers will: 

  • understand the challenges of learning through an additional language, and estimate the language levels of their learners and themselves  

  • understand principles of teaching bilingual learners through an additional language, through reading, observation and discussion – they will apply these principles to their own practice 

  • design individual lessons focused on content and language

  •  implement and evaluate individual lessons focused on content and language

  • reflect on and evaluate their own practice in order to help learners learn content through an additional language more effectively

  •  learn collaboratively, supported by their colleagues    

 

Course Delivery

 

The course will be delivered via live, online Zoom sessions over three separate sessions according to the dates indicated below  

 

The Certificate is for practicing teachers who are teaching:  

 

• a non-language curricular subject (such as history or mathematics) – to bilingual learners   – through an additional language. Teachers who teach language-only subjects (such as English second language or Spanish first language) are not eligible to enter for these qualifications. 

Facilitator

 

Tahani Awad is a Senior Master Trainer at SEA, she worked as a Consultant in Instructional leadership with UNICEF and has 20 years of experience in education, training, and professional development, she worked as a training specialist at Queen Rania Academy for 5 years and worked with CADER Company as a Master Trainer for three years and worked in UNRWA 12 years as Arabic language Teacher 5 years, Assistant Head teacher, and school principal for another 7 years. She also has work experience as a Head of International Sections in the private sector for two years. She also worked with the King Abdullah Fund for Excellence in" Demoqrati” project for 4 years during her work in CADER.   

She received a Harvard University scholarship to enroll in a two-year advanced educational leadership program and obtained a specialist degree in this field. And for now, she is a MEPLI convener with Harvard
