Course Description:

This course targets new teachers in the UAE, helping them understand the context of education, familiarize themselves with teacher standards, the inspection framework, and the best practices in teaching.

 

Learning Outcomes:

  • Align with UAE Teacher Standards: Equip teachers with knowledge and skills related to the standards.

  • Develop Classroom Management Skills: Equip new teachers with proven techniques to manage their classrooms effectively and create a positive learning environment.

  • Master Instructional Strategies: Introduce a variety of teaching methods and approaches to meet the diverse needs of students.

  • Incorporate Technology in Teaching: Train new teachers to integrate educational technology effectively into their classrooms to enhance learning outcomes.

  • Promote Student Engagement: Provide strategies to actively engage students in the learning process and foster a love of learning.

  • Support Diverse Learners: Equip teachers with the tools needed to differentiate instruction and support students with varying abilities and backgrounds.

  • Foster Professional Growth: Encourage new teachers to engage in continuous professional development and reflective teaching practices.

 

Course Delivery:

The course will be conducted online from 23rd September 2024 to 4th November 2024.

 

Facilitator:

The facilitator has over twelve years of experience in education, including teacher training, school development, and improvement, ESL instruction, and senior school management and leadership. They are an enthusiastic educator, bilingual facilitator, school inspector, and coach passionate about school improvement, school leadership, student development, and enhancing the quality and scope of learning within various educational settings. With strong interpersonal skills and cultural awareness, the facilitator has worked with people of diverse backgrounds and academic levels. Learner feedback has highlighted the value of their effective performance in learner engagement, expert facilitation, and equipping schools with practical evaluative tools, feedback, and techniques. They have a commitment to continuous improvement in leadership and pedagogical expertise to enhance learners' achievement and attainment. They have also invested in professional development, including the TRIBAL intensive school inspection course and a Diploma in Training Design and Development. Their role as an Education Consultant on the Mohammed Bin Rashid Smart Learning Program and Quality Performance Lead at Alef Education emphasizes the importance of ICT integration in teaching, learning, and senior leadership training on transforming schools into SMART schools. At Sharjah Education Academy, they introduce Carnegie’s Improvement Science program, engaging learners in improving systems, structures, and norms to positively impact student learning.

Here is the course outline:

Week 1: Introduction to Teacher Standards in the UAE

Oct 7 5pm .. 7pm

Week 1 will provide learners with an introduction to the Teacher Standards in the MOE. The session will empower Teachers with insights and activities of the 4 Teacher Standards and strategies to comply with these strategies in their daily pratices.

Week 2: Eight Mind Frames for Teachers

Oct 14 5pm .. 7pm, Online

In Week 2, participants will delve into 8 Mind Frames for Teachers to leverage participants capacities to perform better, self-assess, think critically, and open opportunities for collaboration and reflection. This course will shape participants into change agents in their working environment leading to better student achievement and progress.

Week 3: Student-Centered Lesson Planning

Oct 21 5pm .. 7pm, Online

In Week 3, participants will engage in the most effective principles and procedures that promote effective student-centered lesson planning. The course introduces participants to the fourteen learner-centered principles​. The course encourages learners to discuss the best strategies to incorporate these principles into a lesson plan​. Finally, learners will be able to reflect on practices that tailor to better student growth and outcomes.

Week 4: Understanding Assessments in Education​

Oct 28 5pm .. 7pm, Online

In Week 4, participants will be introdcued to the essential concepts of formative and summative assessment, exploring their definitions and applications in educational settings. Through this course, you will gain a clear understanding of the key differences between these two types of assessments and how each serves a unique purpose in evaluating student learning. The course will also highlight the importance of both formative and summative assessments, emphasizing their roles in guiding instructional decisions and supporting student growth. Finally, you will explore the impact these assessments have on student learning outcomes, equipping you with tools to effectively enhance classroom practices.

Week 5: Integrating ICT into the Classroom

Nov 4 5pm .. 7pm, Online

In Week 5, participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of ICT integration’s role in education, including its benefits and challenges. They will explore Bloom’s Digital Taxonomy and various ICT models, learn to apply ethical guidelines, and reflect on practical examples to enhance effective ICT use in educational settingsm thus improve stiudent achievement.

Week 6: Classroom Management

Nov 11 5pm .. 7pm, Online

​In Week 6, participants will discuss different classroom management strategies​, learn about different student roles and responsibilities that empower classroom management​, and discuss effective seating plans that tailor for effective classroom management. ​

Week 7: Linking best practices with the Inspection Framework

Nov 18 5pm .. 7pm, Online

In Week 7, participants will learn more about the UAE Inspection Framework​, identify best practices in Teaching and Learning, Planning, Parent Engagement, and Cross-curricular integration​, learn best Formative and Summative Assessment Practices​, and identify the impact of learning environments and ICT integration on student learning​. this weel will provide you with insights on how to empower students with the expected learning skills for the 21st century.
