Lesson Study Practice In Math
Course
Warm-up exercises to help students apply what they've learned in fields of Mathematics.
Course Description
Participants will revisit the elements and process of lesson study. Based on the examples and case studies shared during the session, participants will learn to develop a research topic and subsequently plan for a lesson study on the teaching and learning of mathematics, to be potentially conducted in class. With reference to the curriculum, learning theories and desired outcomes, participants will be writing a detailed lesson plan comprising various aspects of the lesson including pedagogy, use of resources, organization and management, human resource, and anticipated responses. Participants are required to complete the lesson plan, to be used for discussion and critique on Day 2. Practical issues and challenges pertaining to the lesson study planned will be discussed.
Learning Outcomes
Participants will be able to:
1. Gain an overview of the lesson study cycle for the teaching and learning of mathematics
2. Identify and develop research topics and questions
3. Write a detailed lesson plan for the lesson study
4. Plan for various aspects of the lesson study in addition to the lesson development
